About Dixitha Anugula, M.D.
Dixitha Anugula, M.D., specializes in advanced cardiac imaging at Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) and her professional areas of interest include non-Ischemic cardiomyopathies, preventive cardiology, cardiovascular disease in women and cardiac MRIs.
Dr. Anugula’s journey into medicine began at an early age and with a desire to positively impact the lives of people. She said, “Medicine was deeply rooted in our family. As a child I grew up watching my grandparents prepare traditional remedies for various ailments. My father further developed these formulations in his Ayurvedic pharmaceutical company. My favorite task was to sort the mail and read the handwritten notes he received from various parts of India thanking and blessing him for the amazing response they had from the medicine.”
Her decision to pursue cardiology was an easy one that came to her during the early years of medical school. That is where her interest and joy learning about the intricacies of cardiac anatomy and physiology began. She said, “My interest in cardiac imaging commenced in the echocardiography lab where I was fascinated by how a simple ultrasound image could explain complex and multiple ideas of cardiac anatomy and physiology. My fellowship in advanced cardiac imaging helped me appreciate the crucial role of cardiac imaging modalities in understanding a wide variety of disease processes and developing advanced therapeutic procedures in the ever-evolving field of cardiology.”
When it comes to building relationships with her patients, Dr. Anugula mentioned a quote by Patch Adams saying, “You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you’ll win, no matter what the outcome.” She said this quote resonates with her through this journey providing the best possible care for her patients.
