Bailey Brown, PA-C, specializes in general cardiology at Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI). “Although I see my patients under medical circumstances, I see them as people first. I think asking how patients are feeling not only physically, but mentally as well can help them feel comfortable and build trust,” she said.
Bailey’s inspiration to pursue a career in health care stemmed from close experiences with her own family. “My mom, a hospice nurse, and my aunt, an orthopedic surgeon, inspired me to go into health care. I have seen through their careers the effect they have on their patient's lives. They have both demonstrated the importance of compassion in the medical field and I want to bring the same level of compassionate care to my patients,” she said.
As Bailey was finishing up her medical rotations in her physician assistant program, she still wasn’t sure what area of medicine she wanted to pursue. She said, “I did my last rotation at Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) and learned so much about cardiology and was greeted by amazing mentors who made the experience even better. After spending four weeks here I knew cardiology was the area I wanted to work in.”
Bailey encourages people to always be honest with their health care provider. “We are here to help you and having all the information helps us take care of you,” she said. “Also, always advocate for yourself, as you know your body best.”
When Bailey isn’t working, she can be found playing with her two dachshunds, painting, playing board games with friends and family and spending time outside when the weather is nice.
Bailey’s education includes:
• Master’s degree in physician assistant (PA) studies at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa, 2022
• Bachelor of science in biology degree at the University of Oklahoma, 2020
