Christopher C. Allen, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, is an interventional cardiologist doctor at Oklahoma Heart Institute at Hillcrest Hospital Claremore. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, interventional cardiology and nuclear cardiology.

Dr. Allen received his training in internal medicine at Howard University where he served as chief medical resident. He was elected to the prestigious Medicine Honor Society: Alpha Omega Alpha in his senior year. He was then accepted into the cardiology fellowship training program at Howard University Hospital. He completed his training in interventional cardiology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

He moved to Pittsburgh in 1995 and joined the practice of Donohue Cardiology. He joined the staff at Allegheny General Hospital and his love for teaching and mentorship was recognized in 2001 when he was awarded the Distinguished Interventional Cardiology Teaching Award by the staff and fellows in the department of cardiology. He then moved to UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute and was a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was also the medical director of the cardiac catheterization laboratories at UPMC Shadyside Hospital and director of peripheral vascular intervention in the department of cardiology, UPMC Shadyside Hospital. He was also the program coordinator of the cardiology fellowship training program at UPMC Shadyside.

In 2020, Dr. Allen took a position at WVU Heart and Vascular Institute where he was associate professor of medicine at the West Virginia School of Medicine and an interventional and structural cardiologist at WVU Heart and Vascular Institute. He was chief of cardiology at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital and WVU Medicine Reynolds Hospital.

Dr. Allen has a busy clinical practice and is an active clinical researcher both as a principal investigator and a sub-investigator. He has participated in several seminal cardiac and vascular interventional studies that have been essential to defining clinical practice.

As a past president of Gateway Medical Society Dr. Allen actively participated in community service in the Pittsburgh area with a primary focus on community health education and closing the gap in health care disparities as well as tried to fund the pipeline of minorities in medicine. He also finds time to travel to Jamaica to volunteer his services to the underserved and underinsured. 

In 2008 he was elected one of the 50 Men of Excellence in Pittsburgh. In 2015 he was named in the inaugural issue of Who’s Who in Black Pittsburgh. Also, in 2015 he received the Oswald J. Nikens, M.D. Physician of the Year Award from the Gateway Medical Society.

Dr. Allen’s education includes:
     • Fellowship in cardiology at Howard University Hospital Division of Cardiology, 1994
     • Residency in internal medicine at Howard University Hospital Department of Medicine, 1991
     • Bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery, M.B.B.S. at the University of West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, 1982
