Luka Joyner, PA-C, specializes in general cardiology at Oklahoma Heart Institute. Her professional areas of interest include cardiology, nutrition, preventive medicine and helping patients work toward the healthiest version of themselves.

Luka’s inspiration to pursue a career in medicine began with two people who are very close to her. She said, “Both of my parents were nurses growing up, so I saw firsthand the positive impact that they had on their patients. I chose to become a PA so I could care for and help serve the people in my community.”

Luka has always had an interest in cardiology. It wasn’t until she worked in a cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) at a children's hospital that she recognized cardiology care as the specialty she wanted to pursue. “My passion for cardiology grew and I knew that is where I wanted to focus my career,” she said.

When it comes to building relationships with patients, Luka prioritizes active listening and establishing clear, open communication from the start. She often encourages patients to ask questions and seek clarification on anything they find unclear, ensuring they feel empowered and fully supported in their care. “Never be afraid to ask your provider to clarify something that you don't understand,” she said.

Outside of work, Luka enjoys taking her Saint Bernard Poodle mix for long walks, playing pickleball with friends, going to the gym and occasionally watching a good documentary on Netflix. “I also really love snowboarding in the winter and wake surfing at the lake in the summer,” she added.

Luka’s education and career experience include:
     • Master of physician assistant studies degree at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center – College of Medicine, Oklahoma City, OK, 2022
     • Bachelor’s degree in biological and health sciences at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK, 2019
