Our vascular surgery treatments

Vascular surgery encompasses any procedure used to diagnose and treat disorders of the blood vessels, including arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation. Vascular surgery helps restore normal blood flow to affected areas of the body. Conditions commonly treated with vascular surgery include atherosclerosis, aneurysms, deep vein thrombosis, peripheral artery disease, and varicose veins. These procedures are critical for preventing serious complications such as ruptured aneurysms, strokes, and limb loss.

At OHI, our vascular surgeons offer a comprehensive array of services to address various complex cardiovascular conditions. Among our offerings is endovascular and open bypass a procedure that restores blood flow to areas of the body by creating a new path around blocked arteries. Our hospitals are also equipped to handle high-risk redo and complex surgeries for patients requiring a second operation. We also offer a wide range of open, endo, and hybrid aneurysm repair between the heart valve and the lower body.

These advanced surgical options reflect our commitment to providing top-tier cardiovascular care to the people of Oklahoma. To learn more about our vascular treatments, please call us.

AAA/Thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair

Oklahoma Heart Institute is proud to offer endovascular graft surgery, a minimally invasive standard or custom fenestrated procedure that repairs aortic aneurysms (AAA). Often symptomless, AAA occurs when a worn section of the aorta becomes permanently dilated. If left untreated, the aneurysm can rupture with deadly results.

In the past, major abdominal surgery was the only alternative for patients diagnosed with AAA. Today, surgeons at Oklahoma Heart Institute can repair AAA using a minimally invasive technique that requires a shorter hospital stay and often results in fewer complications. Please call us to learn more about AAA repair.

Acute/chronic limb ischemia

Oklahoma Heart Institute provides comprehensive care for limb ischemia. We are the only center in Oklahoma to offer the Detour system. We also provide endovascular bypass and thrombectomy.

The DETOUR System is a minimally invasive percutaneous transmural arterial bypass (PTAB) procedure.  PTAB with the DETOUR System offers a novel approach to treating complex peripheral arterial disease (PAD), enabling physicians to percutaneously bypass lesions in the superficial femoral artery by using stents routed through the femoral vein to restore blood flow to the leg.

Trans carotid artery revascularization

Our vascular team was the first in Tulsa to perform trans carotid artery revascularization (TCAR) procedure, a treatment for patients at risk for stroke due to blockages in the neck arteries known as carotid artery disease. This minimally invasive procedure utilizes an FDA-approved neuroprotection system that temporarily reverses blood flow in the artery during the procedure.

Transfemoral carotid artery stenting

Transfemoral carotid artery stenting (TFCAS) is sed for patients with carotid artery disease to open a blocked artery. This minimally invasive procedure that places a stent into a narrowed artery to improve blood flow and reduce the patient’s risk of stroke.

Carotid endarterectomy

This procedure treats carotid artery disease and lowers risk of stroke in the acute and chronic setting. Plaque is surgically removed from the inside of the carotid artery and blood flow is restored to the brain.
