Top rating places OHI among the nation’s highest-performing TAVR programs and distinguishes it as a regional leader in advanced heart care.

Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI), part of Hillcrest HealthCare System, has earned a prestigious 3-Star Rating for its transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) program from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons/American College of Cardiology (STS/ACC) Transcatheter Valve Therapy (TVT) National Registry, placing the program among the top-performing TAVR programs in the country. The OHI program is the only publicly reported 3-Star program in the state.

The 3-Star Rating, the highest ranking, is awarded to only the top 5–8% of more than 800 TAVR programs nationwide, distinguishing OHI as a leading destination for patients seeking advanced treatment for aortic valve disease in Oklahoma and the surrounding region. The rating is based on an analysis of TAVR program volumes and patient outcomes.

“This 3-Star Rating reflects the exceptional care our team provides every day and confirms that patients have access to one of the nation’s highest-performing TAVR programs right here in Tulsa,” said Kamran Muhammad, MD, FACC, FSCAI, Director of OHI’s Structural Heart Program, who performed Tulsa’s first TAVR procedure in 2012 and has helped establish OHI as a destination for innovative heart care and cardiovascular research. “The most important measure of our success is the outcome for each patient who entrusts us with their care. This recognition demonstrates that our team’s expertise, collaboration and commitment are producing results that rank among the very best in the country.”

TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure used to replace a diseased aortic valve and has transformed treatment options for patients with aortic stenosis, a narrowing of the heart’s aortic valve that restricts blood flow. The procedure allows physicians to replace the valve using a catheter-based approach rather than traditional open-heart surgery.

OHI’s 3-Star Rating underscores the program’s experience and strong patient outcomes, setting it apart as a regional and national leader for patients who need sophisticated structural heart care. OHI’s TAVR program was recently ranked nineteenth in the United States out of more than 800 TAVR programs and No. 1 in Oklahoma by U.S. News & World Report in the publication’s 2026-2027 Best Hospitals edition.

“Patients should not have to travel far from home to receive exceptional heart care,” Muhammad said. “This rating shows they can find nationally recognized expertise and outcomes at Oklahoma Heart Institute.”
