Lisa Johnston, APRN-CNP, specializes in general cardiology and chose to be a heart specialist because it allows her to see a wide range of patients. "Cardiology is a best of both worlds-type of field," Johnston said. "It allows a mix of both acute and chronically ill patients."
Lisa also has special interest in internal medicine, weight loss and overall fitness. When teaching patients how to improve their health, she encourages them to start small. "Getting healthy can seem overwhelming and even impossible, at times," Johnston said. "Making changes, little by little, can make big changes feel more manageable and can create good habits that a patient can build upon."
Lisa received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology/chemistry from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She received an Associate of Science degree in nursing from Tulsa Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. Lisa earned a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
Lisa was a registered nurse manager for Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) prior to becoming a nurse practitioner. She is a member of The American College of Cardiology and The American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Lisa's goal as a provider at OHI is to improve the cardiovascular health of the people in the community and neighboring communities. "I want to help patients feel empowered to take a proactive role in their health care by helping them feel encouraged, supported and hopeful," Johnston said. "I want my patients to know that, together, we are a team."
