Caroline Parker, PA-C, specializes in cardiovascular and thoracic (CVT) surgery at Oklahoma Heart Institute.
Ever since Caroline was young, she has loved helping and caring for others. “In college, I enjoyed my microbiology and anatomy classes, so going into medicine made sense,” she said.
Caroline discovered her fascination for cardiology while completing a clinical rotation for her physician assistant (PA-C) degree. She adds, “While in PA school I did a rotation with OHI to learn more about cardiology as it is a big part of the PA boards. As I learned more, I grew to love the field and the team at OHI.”
Caroline says that building relationships with her patients starts with good communication. “It is important to take the time to listen to their concerns and questions to build trust, especially prior to surgery,” she said.
Caroline’s reminder to patients is, “Focus on what you can do today and that we are all on the same team.” She adds, “We want the patient to succeed and do well!”
When Caroline isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, baking, crocheting and exercising. She also loves to play sand volleyball with the OHI team.
Caroline’s education and career experience include:
• Master’s degree in physician assistant studies (PA-C) at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine, Tulsa, OK, 2015
• Bachelor’s degree in nutritional sciences at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK, 2011
